Mamelodi Sundowns legend Hlompho Kekana has given his thoughts on Kaizer Chiefs-linked coach Fernando Da Cruz and reserved special advice for him.

The Frenchman is said to be finalizing a deal that will see him taking over the coaching reins at Naturena on a two-year contract with the option of a third season.

Amakhosi parted ways with co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef following the expiration of their contracts after both initially served as assistants to former coach Nasreddine Nabi, who left the club amicably in October 2025.

Da Cruz on the other hand also served as part of Nabi’s delegation but left the club at the beginning of the season to take up a job with the Moroccan Football Federation.

Kekana has outlined a few things the coach should possess in order to achieve success at Chiefs.

“When I look at the guy’s age [52], I think he’s at the right age to coach a big team like Kaizer Chiefs,” he said on Soccerzone.

“I don’t know about his experience of coaching a big team like Kaizer Chiefs. But I do know that when you coach Kaizer Chiefs, you must have obviously the experience and the know-how of the game.

“More than anything, you must be results-driven.

“The one thing that I’d like to see is Kaizer Chiefs being coached by one man. And that one man should obviously be leading the whole team.”
