Milford FC scored in the 95th minute to beat Magesi FC in their respective second match of the PSL promotion/relegation playoffs at Umhlathuze Sports Complex on Wednesday.

The mini league top of the table clash result means Milford moved atop of the Limpopo side with six points, while Magesi stayed on three and Cape Town City remain at the bottom with no points after the same number of games.

Both sides were wasteful in front of goal especially in the first half. The home side had a chance to break the deadlock inside the opening five minutes, Bulelani Sigomoshe with a dangerous ball, looked for Siphosethu Ndlabi in the box but Lehlogonolo Mokone beat the striker to it making an important clearance.

Milford who enjoyed more possession had another chance in the 13th minute from a good build up, Ndlabi in a good position in the box slipped but Menzi Chili recovered and shot from outside the box but missed the target.  Sifiso Mdluli tested Elvis Chipezeze from range in the 23rd minute and the Magesi skipper put his body against the woodwork to deny him.

The visitors won a set-piece minutes later Mcedi Vandala sent the ball into the box, the goalkeeper came out to make a clearance but Diteboho Mofokeng capitalised on the rebound but shot over the bar.

There were two other opportunities for the Betway Premiership side before the break, Vandala missing the target from a John Mokone pass. The other was the clearest in the 36th minute with Vandala setting-up Nyakala Raphadu whose effort saw Siphamandla Hleza come out to make the save of the half by denying him a goal.

The game went into halftime locked at 0-0. Both sides returned for the second half unchanged. Milford had a chance to score two minutes into the stanza from a free-kick after Chili was fouled. Mdluli stepped up and swung it right into Chipezeze’s hands.

There was also a tame effort for the visitors from Motise Matima after 70 minutes. Hleza was called in to make another super save two minutes later after a powerful strike by Sifiso Luthuli. It was Chipezeze’s turn to show off in the 76th minute, denying Sigomoshe from a free-kick.

However, there was late drama as Khanyisani Radebe netted in the fifth minute of injury-time to send a massive blow to Magesi’s survival hopes.

The next match is between the Stallions and the Citizens on Saturday in the Mother City.
