Orlando Pirates legend Eugene Zwane has named a Kaizer Chiefs star and three Buccaneers among his picks for the PSL Footballer of the Season award.
The former Ezimnyama Ngenkani forward was speaking during the Toyota Cup launch at Naturena on Tuesday.
Zwane believes that rival goalkeepers Brandon Petersen and Sipho Chaine deserve consideration following their impressive performances and clean-sheet records this season.
He added that Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis should round out the list. He further explained why Mofokeng might have the edge over Appollis despite the latter’s incredible consistency throughout the campaign.
“There’s a few, I think the two goalkeepers from Pirates and Chiefs by virtue of their clean sheets and their outstanding performances,” said Zwane.
“They deserve to be there. I’m talking about Chaine and Petersen.
“I think Relebohile Mofokeng for by virtue of the fact that his contribution has been by far the biggest in the Pirates team. I think Apollis has been far more consistent than Mofokeng.
“But Mofokeng’s contribution is bigger. So, I think they both should be there. For me, those will be the four players in contention for the Player of the season.”
