Following their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Magesi FC head coach Allan Freese has opened up on what he told the players before their fate was sealed.
Despite their topflight experience spanning over two seasons, Dikwena tša Meetse were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship for the 2026/27 campaign coming short in their final PSL Promotion/playoff clash where they needed nothing but a win.

The home side looked like they were destined to retain their Betway Premiership status after Edmore Chirambadare’s header in the 14th minute gave them a 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.
Magesi played very conservative in the second period instead of trying to wrap up the game. A move that ultimately allowed Milford FC back into the game in the 50th minute through Menzi Chili. A result enough to see the Black Stallions gain Betway Premiership promotion.
Speaking to iDiski Times after the match, the 69-year-old, who was roped in towards the end of the season to steer the ship towards top-flight football survival, expressed disappointment at being relegated.
“What can I say, what can I say, I tried my best,” he said in his post-match speech.
“We conceded a goal we shouldn’t have. And yet, we spoke about that ‘Don’t concede today’ and we’ll win the game.
“Unfortunately, we conceded a goal that put us out [of the Betway Prem]. 1-1, we out of everything.
“And that’s the whole season. Where we just couldn’t close the game. And I said to the guys at halftime, ‘guys, champions will win the game 1-0’.
“We were supposed to win the game 1-0, we didn’t win it 1-0.
“Unfortunately, we will have to see what goes on going forward.
“It’s so bad when you lose. Nobody wants to lose, nobody wants to come out of the Betway.
“Even me I’m also very, very disappointed that we didn’t stay in the Betway.”
