New Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has revealed he is aiming to challenge for silverware after being handed the reins of steering the ship for the 2026/27 campaign.
Da Cruz recently got appointed as the Chiefs head coach after the club decided against renewing Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef’s contracts at the end of the previous season.
The 54-year-old comes to a Amakhosi team that have a rich history when it comes to winning trophies domestically. But in the last decade that hasn’t been the case as they have won only one trophy which was Nedbank Cup under Nasreddine Nabi.
Amakhosi are currently in Spain for pre-season, and Da Cruz preparing for the upcoming season, mentioned the importance of competing for titles when he was speaking with Chiefs media.
“I am grateful to the Chairman, Dr. Kaizer Motaung and the Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr. for expressing confidence in me and I will give my level best to do a good job. I am totally committed to Kaizer Chiefs,” Da Cruz told the club’s official website.
“I know I am working for the biggest Club in the country, one with a lot of fans all over Africa, not just South Africa.
“I want us to start the season well to give our millions of fans a good feeling, because they deserve it, and have a good season and challenge for titles.”
He also made a plea with the club’s fans, asking for their support in the club’s pursuit of silverware.
“I hope all the fans will be behind the team to help us have a good season. We will try our best to win silverware and we need our supporters to help us make that happen,” he added.
He got off his Chiefs career to a stalemate with a 1-1 draw against Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers in their first pre-season match at Marbella Football Center this past weekend.
