Durban City head coach Khalil Ben Youssef has provided an injury update on Gaston Sirino, along with Mfanafuthi Mkhize and Fezile Gcaba, ahead of the club’s Betway Premiership season opener.

The Citizens kick off their 2026/27 campaign with an away fixture against Sekhukhune United on Saturday, 1 August, at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The encounter will also see Ben Youssef come up against familiar opposition, with Sekhukhune coach Cedric Kaze having worked alongside him as co-coach at Kaizer Chiefs last season.

Ben Youssef is optimistic about having a full-strength squad available for the trip.

Sirino was rested during the KZN Premier’s Cup over the weekend after experiencing discomfort during training last week.

Mkhize and Gcaba were also left out as a precaution, with the Tunisian tactician hopeful that all three players will recover in time for the league opener.

“No, there are three players, we didn’t want to take the risk with them, they felt a little bit of pain two days ago,” said Ben Youssef.

“So, we decided with the medical staff to give them rest and then they will be available next week.

“It’s not only Sirino, it’s [Mfanafuthi] Mkhize, it’s [Fezile] Gcaba. Three players are out today and hopefully next week they will start the next session with us.”
