Orlando Pirates have learnt their opponents for the CAF Champions League first preliminary round, as the Buccaneers hope to get further than last year.
Pirates will enter the first qualifying round, as they are currently sitting in 19th spot in the CAF 5-year ranking, while Sundowns are among the exempted teams – having moved into top spot in the CAF Ranking.
Last season, the Buccaneers were eliminated in the second preliminary round, losing to Saint-Eloi Lupopo on penalties after a heroic comeback saw them level a 3-0 away defeat at home before falling short from the spot-kicks.
This year, the Betway Premiership champions will their their CAFCL campaign against La Cure Waves from Mauritania.
Meanwhile, Sundowns will face the winner between Wiliete SC (Angola) and Foresters FC (Seychelles) in the second preliminary round.
The first preliminary round first legs will be played between 4-6 September, while the return fixtures will be played a week later between 11-13 September.
The second preliminary round will then take place from 16-18 October, and the returns legs on 23-25 October.
Matchday on of the group stages is scheduled for 27-29 November.
