Former Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer has joined Sudan’s most successful club, Al-Hilal Omdurman SC.
Zinnbauer, 56, won the MTN8 title with Pirates in 2020 but left the club in August 2021. He then had a short stint with Locomotive Moscow before winning the double unbeaten with Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic.
But upon leaving Raja, he coached Saudi side Al Wehda, only lasting 12 games, and was most recently with Algerian side JS Kabylie until March 2026.
He was now unveiled by the Sudanese record champions, who have won the local Premier League 31 times.
“We are proud to announce the appointment of German coach Josef Zinnbauer as the new head coach of the King of Sudanese Football, on a two-year contract,” the club stated.
“A new chapter begins. A new vision. A new challenge. Welcome to Al Hilal family, Coach Zinnbauer.
“We believe in your experience, ambition, and leadership, and we look forward to achieving great things together.
“The journey starts now. Let’s make history.”
Al Hilal are in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League where they will face Aigle Noir Makamba FC from Burundi.
