Mamelodi Sundowns scored two late goals to steal three points from TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday evening.

From the kickoff, Sundowns pushed Galaxy into their own half and moved the ball around nicely. The Rockets had a half chance inside the fourth minute, but Victor Letsoalo’s shot went wide.

Sundowns were awarded a penalty in the sixth minute after Junior Zindonga fouled Tashreeq Matthews inside the box, Colombian striker Brayan Leon stepped up and sent Ira Tape the wrong way, and Sundowns led by 1-0.

Galaxy punished Sundowns in the 33rd minute after they were too casual at the back, Santos misplaced a pass which Tshepo Kakora picked up and made a brilliant pass to set up Letsoalo who beat Ronwen Williams to make it 1-1.

The second half kicked-off, and immediately Sundowns had a glorious opportunity after a counter attack. Tashreeq Matthews used his pace well, dribbled past two defenders and laid a pass to Antonio Van Wyk whose shot was saved by Ira Tape.

Sundowns kept on knocking, Matthews played a good pass to Bennet Mokoena who played one-touch to set up Brayan Leon whose shot was well saved by Ira Tape in the 68th minute.

The Rockets took the lead in the game for the first time after Mvelase delivered a great free-kick which found Letsoalo in the box and his header bounced against the post and from there against the back of Williams and into goal.

When it looked like Galaxy had secured three points, with two minutes remaining in normal time, Khuliso Mudau played a brilliant pass inside the box find Sphelele Mkhulise who tapped it home to make it 2-2.

And both players again combined as Mudau found Mkhulise in the box, who made no mistake to secure the three points in the 93rd minute.
