Sekhukhune United assistant coach Paulus Masehe has explained the circumstances behind Cedric Kaze’s red card during their 2-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Tuesday evening.
Kaze was sent off following an altercation involving fourth official Akhona Makalima during the Betway Premiership encounter, leaving Masehe and Papi Zothwane to take charge of the technical area for the remainder of the match.

However, according to Masehe, the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding rather than any deliberate confrontation with the match officials.
“There was a moment of misunderstanding between the fourth official and the referee, the honest question that our coach was asking is ‘why are you taking so long?’,” Masehe explained when asked by iDiski Times.
“But from whatever frustration from the fourth official, she ended up telling the referee, the coach is using uncomfortable language.”
The incident came during a frustrating evening for Babina Noko, who ultimately suffered a 2-0 defeat against a Pirates side that secured a 1-0 win over them this weekend in Polokwane in their first leg MTN8 semi-final.
Masehe suggested that Kaze’s frustration was driven by the events unfolding on the pitch, with the coach seeking clarity from the officials before the situation escalated.
The red card meant Kaze was forced to watch the remainder of the contest from the stands, and now potentially miss out on the second leg semi-final at the same venue on Saturday.
Kaze will now await the outcome of the relevant disciplinary process to determine whether the red card will carry any further consequences beyond his removal from the technical area on Tuesday night.
