Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster looks set for a surprise move to Major League Soccer (MLS) with a loan move agreed with Houston Dynamo.
Foster, 25, attracted interest from clubs in Turkey, France and Germany over the last month after it was made clear a move from relegated Burnley would be on the horizon.
But despite the opportunities, sources have confirmed the move to the United States of America – where the recently 2026 FIFA World Cup took place – was a preferred destination.
The English Championship club have reached an agreement with Dynamo – with the season-long loan deal holding an option to make the deal permanent in excess of £6-million.
Having joined Burnley from Belgian outfit Westerlo in 2023 in a £11-million transfer, his time at the club now comes to an end after 99 appearances, with 12 goals scored and 12 assists registered.
For South Africa, he’s racked up 28 caps, with 10 goals and three assists – and is likely to form an important part of the senior national team set-up under new head coach Pitso Mosimane.
The move was imperative for Foster as he looks to get back to the form that earned him a move for England, while also keeping his place in the Bafana fold.
He’s set to become the latest South African in the MLS alongside Puso Dithajane, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Tylon Smith.
