Thapelo Maseko could not hide his delight after a dream first start for FC Copenhagen in the Danish Superliga that ended in the supporters chanting his name throughout the stadium.
The Bafana Bafana winger was handed his first league start since completing his move to Copenhagen and made an immediate impact, finding the back of the net twice.

Maseko could have completed a hat-trick, but another effort was ruled out following a VAR review as Copenhagen cruised to a comprehensive 5-0 victory.
Speaking after the match to FCK TV, the 23-year-old admitted it was a special occasion, while praising his new teammates and coaching staff for helping him settle into life in Denmark.
“Unbelievable [first start], unbelievable, I’ll be happy with the goals but I think the gents were just amazing, amazing group of people, players, staff and technical team, they have made it really easy for me to adjust and adapt in my first game,” Maseko said.
“You know how it can be at times, I’m grateful for them, they have been amazing to me.”
The former Mamelodi Sundowns winger revealed that he had not yet had the opportunity to watch his goals back, instead giving credit to the teammates who created the opportunities for him.
“It was special day for me, my first game, and scored two goals, I’ve yet to see the goals again, just credit to the passes and cross that came, it’s those things that make a team, credit to the gents, they have been unbelievable to me,” he added.
“I’ll revisit to watch the goal, it was a good pass, but I heard behind me, ‘go, go, go’ – I kept going and took a shot and yeah.”
Maseko’s performance was capped by a memorable reception from the Copenhagen supporters, who celebrated his goals and introduced him to a song of his own.
“It was a crazy experience [to hear the fans screaming my name], we are just thankful for them, I heard they have a song for me, very nice one, I like it, I like it,” he said.
After making a strong impression on his first start, Maseko will now look to build on the performance as he continues his adaptation to Danish football and establishes himself at one of Scandinavia’s biggest clubs.
