South African tactician Eric Tinkler masterminded Asante Kotoko to their first league win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Heart of Lions in the Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday evening.
Tinkler continued his unbeaten run after making a shock move to Ghana having last being in a coaching job with Durban City in the Betway Premiership.
The former Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City mentor has already tasted success after claiming his first trophy in Accra with the 2026 Democracy Cup triumph.
The Porcupine Warriors beat fierce rivals Accra Hearts of Oak 4-1 on penalties in the third edition of the prestigious football showdown at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi late last month.
Playing at home, Kotoka were off to a bright start with Emmanuel Mamah opening the scoring in the 27th minute. It was 2-0 after the resumption of the second period as Isaac Opoku Agyemang doubled his side’s lead in the 62nd minute.
The visitors did get a consolation in the 92nd minute via a penalty, but it was too little too late as Kotoko held on for their first win of the season.
Tinkler’s side currently occupies fourth spot with four points after two matches.
Their next match will be on the road to visit second-placed Samartex on Sunday, 20 September.
