Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has cut Richards Bay goalkeeper Ian Otieno from his final squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Eritrea and Guinea this month.
Otieno was in the preliminary 38-man squad but missed out as Byrne Omondi of Gor Mahia, Faruk Shikala from Nairobi United and Tusker keeper Brian Bwire got the nod.
The 33-year-old is in his third season with the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit and last season he was instrumental when they avoided being dragged into relegation battle.
He kept nine clean sheets in 24 league appearances as the Natal Rich Boys finished in 11th place with 34 points. This season he is yet to keep a clean sheet in five outings.
Meanwhile Kenya by virtue of being one of three hosts of the tournament have already qualified for the PAMOJA event and as a result only one other team in Group D which also includes Bafana Bafana will progress to the finals.
McCarthy has already said that he is going to treat the qualifiers seriously to strengthen the team for the finals. Kenya plays Eritrea on 26 September at home and face Guinea away on 1 October.
