Richards Bay have confirmed that Ronnie Gabriel has resigned from his role as head coach with immediate effect.
This publication reported earlier on Thursday that Bay had shortlisted Phuti Mohafe and Adnan Beganovic for the head coach role, as the club were assessing whether to give Gabriel another game or part ways already.
This comes after a winless start to the new campaign, with three draws and three defeats, including the most recent 5-1 thrashing of Premiership rookies Milford this past weekend.
“Richards Bay Football Club is sad to announce that Head Coach Ronnie Gabriel has resigned from the club with immediate effect,” the club stated.
“The Club expresses its sincere appreciation to coach Ronnie Gabriel for his dedication. professionalism and contribution during his tenure for the past seasons with the club as our Technical team member and wishes him every success in his future endeavours.
“Further updates on the new coach will be provided in due course.”
Mohafe, who parted ways after just five games with Marumo Gallants – the club he joined after three impressive seasons with Polokwane City – establishing the club in the league after winning promotion – was an early front runner for the role at the Natal Richboyz.
But sources within the club have confirmed contact has now been made with Beganovic, who left TS Galaxy towards the latter stages of last season after leading them to the Nedbank Cup final.
It’s been suggested that talks have been progressing well with the Bosnian’s camp, however there are other contenders for the role.
