South African midfielder Sipho Mbule was shown a red card as Zakho SC suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Al-Karma in their latest Iraqi league encounter.

Mbule has established himself as a regular feature for the Iraqi outfit since joining the club ahead of the start of the season.

The 28-year-old has been involved consistently in Zakho’s campaign and has so far made eight appearances across the season.

He has contributed to one goal and one assist during his eight outings, and was also named in the Team of the Week in his previous match.

However, on Saturday his match ended prematurely after he was dismissed in 50th minute during Zakho’s defeat to Al-Karma.

The red card means Zakho will have to cope without the midfielder for their upcoming league fixtures, beginning with their home meeting against Newroz on October 9. They will then face another challenge against Al Naft eight days later, on October 17.

Zakho currently occupy 11th position in the league standings, having collected nine points from their opening eight matches. The club will now be hoping to return to winning ways while Mbule serves his suspension.
