Amajita Hero Smith Revels In AFCON Run

Amajita defender and semi-final hero Tylon Smith says they just want to make South Africa proud as they head to the U20 Africa Cup of Nations final this weekend.

Smith, 20, currently starring in the DStv Diski Challenge with Stellenbosch has been one of the standout players at the tournament and capped off his goal scoring winner against Nigeria with the Man of the Match honour for a second time in the campaign.

His header saw them qualify for the final against Morocco on Sunday, a repeat of the 1997 final, which was the last time South Africa reached this stage of the competition.

“We went through a lot – they had a lot of training camps, and I think personally this means a lot for us – at this age, playing in a World Cup, not everyone can achieve what we have, and I feel like it means a lot to the boys,” Smith said after the win over Nigeria.

“We just have to keep on winning, just keep on wining and go full out because we want to make the people in South Africa proud and I think we will.”

Smith will be aiming to help Amajita lift their first-ever U20 AFCON title, when they face the Atlas Cubs on Sunday (20h00) before their FIFA World Cup campaign in Chile later this year.
