Benin Move Top After Four-Goal Thriller V Zim

Benin moved top of Group C despite spurning a two goal lead in their 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday evening.

The fixture played out at Moses Mabhida Stadium was a must-win for the Warriors as hosts to keep their qualification hopes alive.

But they got off to the worst possible start when Washington Arubi had a moment to forget gifting possession to the Cheetah’s before Steve Mounie’s opener.

Dodo Dokou netted the second ten minutes 20 minutes later, but the home side fought back valiantly with Marshall Munetsi pulling one back just before the break.

Knowledge Musona, who was lured out of international retirement last week for this squad found the equaliser in the second half as they shared the spoils, but Michael Nees’ side remain at the bottom of the group with three points in five games.

Meanwhile, Les Guépards move top with eight points, two wins, two draws and one defeat in six games – ahead of Rwanda and Bafana, who face Nigeria and Lesotho, tomorrow.
