Former Kaizer Chiefs duo Fabian McCarthy and Reneilwe Letsholonyane and ex-Mamelodi Sundowns stars Surprise Moriri and Ronnie Kanalelo graduated on Friday after being recipients of the CAF A Licence.
After a long-awaited six-year return of the CAF A coaching licence, which was frozen by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as they updated the coaching manuals, the four PSL legends were among those who took the opportunity to further equip themselves with knowledge of the game years after hanging up their boots and gloves.
‘Yeye’ currently forms part of SA U20 head coach Raymond Mdaka’s technical team having parted ways with AmaZulu in January 2024 after heading up their DStv Diski side.
Former Chiefs captain McCarthy is an analyst on SuperSport TV, while Moriri is involved with Sundowns’ youth structures. Kanalelo, was most recently with the Namibian national team as assistant coach at the 2023 AFCON, before taking up the hot seat at African Stars who were this weekend eliminated by Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions League Preliminary second-leg round.
The CAF A Coaching Licence is a strict requirement by the continent’s football governing body for coaches to be eligible to be in the technical area in an official CAF match.
