Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana’s FCSB dropped into the relegation zone after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of FC Hermannstadt in the Romanian Liga 1 on Sunday.
The defending Romanian league and cup double champions have not had the best of starts in the new campaign, having lost three, drawing two and winning just once in six outings since the 2024/25 campaign got underway. They currently lie in 15th position, nine points adrift of league leaders CS Universitatea Craiova.
Their latest result are somewhat impacted by their foray into European competition after they were also eliminated from the UEFA Champions League qualifications phase by Sparta Praha, who won 4-3 on aggregate, after the first leg ended 1-1 before losing 3-2.
Despite the struggles, FCSB’s hope to play European football is still alive. This week, they will now play against Austrian side LASK in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League qualification after the first leg ended 1-1.
FCSB will have the second leg at home in front of their home supporters. A win for them will put them a step closer to European football.
Ngezana has been an ever-present figure for FCSB and has already played 11 games across all competitions this term, including the Super Cup final win which was his second trophy since arriving at the club.
