Fadlu Davids is “in advanced talks” to join three-time CAF Champions League winners Raja Club Athletic to become Josef Zinnbauer’s assistant once more, his agent confirmed to iDiski Times.
Davids, 42, was in charge of Maritzburg United in the second half of 2022/23 but couldn’t prevent the club from being relegated.
He found them in 16th place during the 2022 FIFA World Cup break and took them into 15th, missing out on DStv Premiership survival on goal difference.
However, the Team of Choice got relegated via the PSL Promotional Play-offs after failing to beat Cape Town Spurs on the final match.
A few days later, Maritzburg parted ways with the club’s entire technical team, but Davids seemingly won’t be long without a job as he – along with Darian Wilken and Mueez Kajee – is close to joining Moroccan giants Raja.
“I can confirm that we are in advanced discussions with Raja Casablanca for the services of (our clients) Fadlu Davids, Mueez Kajee and Darian Wilken,” Rasthoem Simons of 5sSports told this publication.
“On agreement they will join the technical team led by Josef Zinnbauer. An interesting encounter South Africans could possibly look forward to is the match between Al Wahda (UAE) and Raja Casablanca in the Arab Cup in a few weeks, where another of our clients Maahier Davids is a member of coach Pitso Mosimane’s successful technical team. Both teams will be loaded with South Africans on both sides.”
Davids is close to again linking up with Zinnbauer, who was recently appointed as the club’s new head coach. It will be their third stint together after their time at Orlando Pirates and Locomotive Moscow.
