Ghana’s leading official in the defence case against the protest of the South African Football Association over the Black Stars match against Bafana Bafana has hit back at SAFA.
On Friday, FIFA had dismissed SAFA’s protest because it “did not meet the requirements” and SAFA now still have the option to appeal the case.
The ruling has surely surprised some of the leadership at SAFA, who seemed very confident to get a decision in South Africa’s favour.
Just days before the announcement, SAFA president Dr. Danny Jordaan told Robert Marawa that “you cannot be schooled by a primary school teacher if you are a university professor”.
Jordaan’s comments and the overall conduct of SAFA were not very well received in Ghana, whose Football Association had been very aggressive in their responses throughout the case.
GFA secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, who was the leading official to conduct Ghana’s case, seemingly mocked SAFA after the ruling.
“The South African Football Association knows nothing in football and this case clearly shows how incompetent they are,” Addo told Light FM, as cited by IOL.co.za.
“They want to frustrate Ghana, and we are focussed on the Afcon and the Fifa World Cup playoff.”
SAFA, meanwhile, have reacted to the ruling by saying they will consider their options on whether to appeal the decision or not.
As it stands, Ghana will play in the play-offs for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
