Khanye On Chiefs-City Fiasco

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye has commented on the fiasco around the DStv Premiership match between Amakhosi and Cape Town City.

The match didn’t take place after a Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena prevented the Glamour Boys from Honouring the fixture.

In the absence of an official statement from the Premier Soccer League, Cape Town City followed procedures and arrived at FNB Stadium, but the gates remained locked.

City and the match officials did adhere o protocol, while Chiefs failed to honour the fixture after pleading with eh PSL to postpone the match.

Khanye believes City did the right thing and Chiefs should’ve honoured the fixture.

“No club must should be given special treatment,” the iDiskiTV analyst said.

“It is supposed to be an easy three points for City but I wont be surprised if they suddenly change the rules to accommodate Chiefs.

“Cape Town City did the right thing to honour the fixture and they deserve their points.

“It’s unfortunate what happened with Chiefs with Covid but they should have honoured the match even if they had only a few players.”

The matter is now likely to go to the PSL DC who will decide on the outcome of the match.

In a similar case between Cape Umoya, who couldn’t honour the fixture after a Covid-19 outbreak, and Cape Town All Stars in the GladAfrica Championship, the visiting team did receive the three points.

The ruling was based on a resolution taken by the PSL Executive in August that Covid-19 cases could not be used as exceptional circumstances to postpone a match.
