Wydad Athletic Club head coach Rulani Mokwena admits that the club’s fans deserve better after they threw missiles onto the pitch in act of frustration for their league defeat.
Mokwena was among those who left the field escorted by police presence from fans’ displeasure following their third Botola Pro Inwi defeat. It has been a tough five days for Mokwena, as Wydad suffered back-to-back defeats against CODM and RS Berkane. The Red Castle subsequently dropped to seventh with 11 points after eight matches.

They have also conceded seven penalties in eight games, the most by another team in the Botola Pro Inwi this season.
After Berkane’s defeat, Mokwena left the pitch escorted by police as angry Wydad supporters threw missiles at them, showing their frustration. The South African mentor pleaded with Wydad supporters a few days ago to be patient with the new technical team.
“I believe in this team, I believe in our staff, I believe in our work. We will grow, and we have to experience difficult moments,” Mokwena told the media after match.

“The fans of Wydad know the situation and I know you know football a lot and you know that no coach comes, the team is in number six with new players, with the board, with the new staff and really to be honest I thought we will struggle more than we had.
“To arrive at match day eight and we were three points away from number one, I thought that was a very good start but today is a very disappointing result especially that we played very well and for me, that is the biggest disappointment.
“The fans deserve the better results because they were amazing, they supported us.
“I think it influenced the performance. We played well but for sure at big clubs, you have to win games.”
