Wydad Athletic Club’s under-fire head coach, Rulani Mokwena has given an update on his future and stated that he would leave the club with great respect for the supporters.
The past few weeks haven’t been good for Mokwena after Wydad played five consecutive draws in the Botola Pro Inwi and got knocked out of the Throne Cup. The pressure from the supporters, who are calling for him to be removed as coach, has been mounting.
The Red Castle finished in sixth place last season with 44 points, they are currently in third place with 44 points and four games remaining and still have a chance to qualify for the CAF Champions League or CAF Confederation Cup.
After recent crisis talks between the club’s management and his agent, Mokwena confirmed that he will finish the season at Wydad despite the pressure.
“Of course, it’s gonna be difficult because of the results and it has to be difficult that’s what happens in a big team so I have to take it,” Mokwena told the media after his side’s 1-1 draw in the Casablanca derby.
“I have to take risks to win games that’s it. If it’s not good enough it’s okay.
“I told you guys I will be here, I will finish the season. I will leave Wydad in the front door not the backdoor, not the window.
“I will leave Wydad with a lot of respect for the people of Morocco, a big respect for the club and that’s it.
“I’m a coach that takes risks, I want to win games and that’s it.”
