Rulani Mokwena’s Wydad Athletic Club dropped two points against Rennaissance Zemamra and missed a chance to go into second place.
Wydad came to this game unbeaten in the last six matches, winning three and playing three draws. Having not lost to Zemamra in history Wydad aimed to continue the good in a tough away encounter.
The Red Castle started the game like a house on fire and created a few opportunities, including a Cassius Mailula shot from inside the box, which for goal-line clearance.
But Mokwena’s side seemed to have lost control of the game towards the last 10 minutes of the first half with Zemamra able to find spaces behind their defence.
The second half kicked on a high note with Zemamre pushing Wydad back but the Red Castle defense remained strong and was able to deal with the pressure.
After absorbing the pressure for the first 10 minutes in the second half, Wydad reclaimed control of the game and created a half-chance but it did not bother Zemamra goalkeeper Marouane Fakhr.
Mailula again had the best opportunity of the second half when he was set up by Mohamed Rayhi but his first touch let him down and Zemamra’s goalkeeper came off his line to block the shot.
The draw took Wydad to fourth place, with 24 points after 15 games. They remained nine points behind table toppers RS Berkane, who have a game in hand.
