South African match officials Abongile Tom and Akhona Makalima will be involved in Sunday’s last 16 games at the African Cup Of Nations.
Highly rated Tom will be officiating his third match in the AFCON finals after making his debut two weeks ago in a 1-1 draw between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.
He was then elected to take charge of Algeria against Burkina Faso clash which ended in a 2-2 draw. Tom has shown 10 yellow cards and pointed once to the penalty spot.
The Cape Town-born referee will take charge of Sunday’s clash between Egypt and DR Congo.
Meanwhile, his countrywoman Makalima will be part of the Video Assistant Referee teams for the third time in the tournament, as she has been chosen to be in VAR room for the clash between Equatorial Guinea and Guinea on Sunday evening.
