Serero & Al Jazira Hammered At CWC

Thulani Serero and Al Jazira were knocked out of the FIFA Club World Cup after losing 6-1 to Al Hilal Saudi on Sunday evening.

Former Ajax coach Marcel Keizer set his side out to play on the counter against their more illustrious opposition and opened the scoring the Mali international Abdoulaye Diaby.

However that was at good as it got for the UAE Pro League champions as Al Hilal came rallying back with five unanswered goals to embarrass them home side.

Odion Igalo and former West Bromwich Albion star Matheus Pereira scored in quick succession in the 38th and 40th minute to turn the game around before the break.

And in the second half Mohamed Kanno, Salem Al Dawsari, Moussa Marega and a penalty from Andre Carillo made it a hammering of note.

The Asian champions will now face UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea in Wednesday’s semi-final.

Meanwhile, CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly booked their spot in the other semi-final after beating Monterrey on Saturday.

They will take on Copa Libertadores champions on Tuesday and attempt to reach their first ever CWC final.

Serero played the full 90 minutes for his side, who will now face Monterrey in the fifth-place playoff.
