The University Of Western Cape have been eliminated from the CAF Women’s Champions League after suffering a 2-0 defeat against AS FAR.
UWC started the game on the front foot pushing AS FAR as they looked to get an early goal. The Moroccan side remained firm and kept their defence locked.
After ten minutes, AS FAR looked to be more in control as they settled into the game. Within 13 minutes UWC created a half chance after Khanya Xesi received a pass inside the six-yard but failed by her first touch.
AS FAR were awarded a penalty 10 minutes before halftime after Sanaa Mssoudy was brought down by Simnikiwe Mhlakazi. Doha El Madani stepped up and made no mistake, AS FAR 1-0 UWC.
The Moroccan side went into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead, and that result wasn’t good for UWC as they were 45 minutes away from being eliminated from the competition.
Right the first whistle of the second half, AS FAR made a mistake at the back Tiffany Korjie one-on-one with the keeper but Khadija Er-Rmichi made a brilliant save to keep in 1-0.
After an hour of football, Ouahiba Boukhami started a move combining with Mssoudy who played a through pass to Doha El Madani to complete her brace, and 2-0 AS FAR doubled the lead.
And with TP Mazembe also winning in the other game against Aigles de la Medina, UWC’s exit was confirmed, as they finished third in Group A, behind AS FAR and Mazembe.
