The South Africa U20 and U17 national teams both picked up wins over Lesotho in their preparation friendlies for the upcoming Cosafa Cup tournaments.
Amajita, led by a new-look technical team beat Lesotho U20 3-1 with Kaizer Chiefs’ Mfundo Vilakazi and Mamelodi Sundowns’ Kutlwano Lethlaku finding the net in the opening half, and Cape Town City’s Shakeel April scoring just before full time.
Paseka Maile scored for the hosts, which marked the first friendly fixture for this new crop of players who had their first training camp at the end of March this year.
The U17 squad, who are more familiar with each other, having been selected from a crop of U15 talents over the past two years eased to a 4-0 win at the UJ Soweto campus.
Amajimbos dominated the fixture from the kickoff, having a chance at goal in the opening fifteen seconds.
Sive Pama made it 1-0 in the 10th, as the right back pushed into the box, before delivering a composed finish.
The South Africans bossed the game, with starlet Emile Witbooi in the thick of things, and it was 2-0 in the 22nd minute, as Selwyn Stevens got on the scoresheet.
They got their third four minutes later as Tebogo Mlangeni finished from close range before seven changes were made at the break.
Anovuyo Mgoqi netted the fourth goal in the second half for a comprehensive victory for Vela Khumalo’s side.
