The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed a boost of funds for clubs participating in the preliminary rounds of inter-club competitions.
In recent years, there have been incidents of clubs pulling out of the Champions League and Confederation Cup due to a lack of funds to honour fixtures.
In a bid to remedy the issue, CAF who have pumped millions of dollars into raising the prize money pool has now confirmed a new incentive.
Each club will receive $50,000 (R900,000) for participating in the preliminary rounds of the competitions – a first for African football, with clubs only eligible for financial reward once entering the group stage of the respective comeptitions.
The First Preliminary Round begins with first leg matches scheduled between 16-18 August, followed by return legs from 23-25 August 2024.
The Second Preliminary Round will take place in September, with group stage places at stake.
