Banyana Climb In Latest FIFA Rankings

Banyana Banyana have moved up one spot, from 51 to 50, in the latest FIFA rankings released on Friday.

The senior women’s national team have not been in action since their back-to-back friendly internationals away to Senegal in early June.

Dr Desiree Ellis’s charges played to a 1-1 draw in the first fixture before beating the Les Teranga Lionesses 2-0 in the second match, with Amogelang Motau and Noxolo Cesane registering their names on the scoresheet.

On the continent, the defending Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Champions sit in second spot behind rivals Nigeria, who are CAF’s highest-ranked team globally in 36th spot.

Here’s the list of the top 10 women’s national teams in Africa:

Banyana Banyana next have European champions England, who are ranked number 2, lined up for a friendly international scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

They will use this tough fixture as they prepare to defend their WAFCON crown in Morocco next year.

The last meeting between these two sides was back in 2010 at the Cyprus Women’s Cup, with the South Africans narrowly going down 1-0 courtesy of Jill Scott’s first-half strike.
