South Africa and Namibia played out to a goalless draw in their international friendly at Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
With Bafana Bafana already qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast this January and Namibia one foot into the tournament, the fixture billed up to be the perfect preparation for both sides.
But it was a rather uneventful affair bar a couple of players; Kabomlelo Kodisang and Thabiso Monyane receiving their senior international debuts – while Lebo Mothiba returned to the pitch for Bafana for the first time in nearly four years.
But the Brave Warriors, who have been using South Africa as their home venue during the AFCON qualifiers, seemed content at sitting back to frustrate the home side probably had the best chance of the game when Bethuel Muzeu was clean through but put his effort wide of Veli Mothwa’s post.
Lyle Foster cut a frustrated figure in attack but it was largely due to Bafana setting up with a deep midfield three while Namibia were content to get bodies behind the ball.
Overall, it was a rather lacklustre display and head coach Hugo Broos will be hoping for improvement when they host DR Congo at the same venue on Tuesday afternoon.
