South Africa beat Benin to open a gap at the top of Group C and move a step closer to qualifying for 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Bafana Bafana started the game on a high note, meanwhile Benin were more observent sitting back closing the spaces. Despite being dominant Hugo Broos’ side failed to make the use of their dominance as they created half chances.

Khuliso Mudau had the first shot on target in the 18th minute but Benin goalkeeper Marcel Dandijinou made a comfortable save.
Ronwen Williams was called into action in the 19th minute but defender Junior Olaitan’s header from centre of the box was saved by Mzansi’s number one.
With six minutes remaining Thalent Mbatha took a shot from outside the box but Dandijinou was equal to the task.
The second half kicked off with both sides looking to something on the scoreboard.
Bafana finally broke the deadlock on the 53rd minute after Fawaz Basadien played a low cross to Lyle Foster who made no mistake to make it 1-0.
Broos made changes which they immediately had an impact after Oswin Appollis played a free-kick into the box and found Jaydan Adams who made no mistake to make it 2-0.
The result saw Bafana move to 13 points from six games, they go a step closer to to qualifying for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
