Basadien Breaks Silence On Chiefs Links

Stellenbosch FC left-back Fawaaz Basadien has broken his silence on rumours linking him with Kaizer Chiefs.

Basadien, 27, has been one of the top performers for Stellies, scoring three goals in their first five games this campaign.

And Basasien’s fine form has seen him become a target of new Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi, but Stellies have rebuffed the interest from the Soweto giants.

The Winelands-based side hold the trump cards in their hands after Basadien signed a new long term deal earlier in the year, with the player confirming he’s focussed on his current club.

”I control what I can control,” he said on Monday.

”Obviously I’m contracted to Stellenbosch, that’s where I’m playing.

”All I can do is put in good performances week in, week out. I’m there to do a job – never mind what’s going on in the media.

”Obviously it’s good to have a club like Chiefs interested in you, but I’m contracted to Stellenbosch and my focus has been there by Stellenbosch and just to put in good performances week in, week out.”

Basadien’s form has also earned him a first call-up to Bafana Bafana and he is part of Hugo Broos’ squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

”Obviously it’s an honor and privilege to represent my country,” he added.

”As a footballer you always want to represent your country and fortunately for me I’ve put in some good and consistent performances and the coach selected me.

”And all I’ve got to do now is take my chance and make the most of it.”
