Baroka Chairman Confirms Mammila Decision

Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele has confirmed that management had a meeting with head coach Morgan Mammila and his technical team on Monday regarding the club’s poor start to the season.

Bakgaga are targeting outright promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship this season but have picked up just a single point from their opening two matches, while suffering a heavy defeat away at Upington City this past weekend.

The result which saw the Limpopo side drop to third from bottom on the Championship log also sparked rumours that the club was parting ways with Mammila.

The chairman said in as much as he is not blaming anyone for the loss the result is embarrassing. The club principal says after meeting with Mammila the coach was given a chance to win the next match and if he doesn’t management will revisit their agreement with him and anything including dismissal could happen.

“We are really disappointed by our two games,” Mphahlele told IDiski Times.

“What is even worse is that we played very badly against Orbit and against Upington but we have to follow the contract because we are a professional team.

“We don’t just kick people left, right and center and people make mistakes, we understand.

“We talked to them and they apologised to us. They said they made a mistake they will rectify those mistakes. And then we have to give them a second chance and see what will happen in our next game which is the third game.

“If this poor performance persists after we talked to them, the contract gives us power to take action which can be a fine, it can be a suspension or worse it can also be dismissal.

“The contract gives us that privilege and we don’t wish to go there. We don’t wish to do that. We wish that he can improve and make everybody happy. We know we are going to lose some matches there is no way we can win all the matches, it’s just that we started badly.

“If I was showing displeasure I’d tell you now that we parted ways with Morgan. I’m showing tolerance, I’m showing support and I’m showing him that we mean what we signed with him. That’s why he is still here.

“If I was not tolerant he wouldn’t be here today or yesterday, he could have gone as anticipated by the rumours. He could have gone but he’s still here because we respect the contract, we respect him and we respect the public.

“Even if somebody is not performing you need to give him a chance. You must give him notice that you are not performing and if you are not performing I’m going to apply this clause.

“You can’t just apply it blindly. That’s what we told him today that if he’s not performing we are going to revisit clause so and so and he said he understands.”
