Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is hopeful Njabulo Blom’s return to Kaizer Chiefs reignites the form that earned him a place in the national team.
Blom, 24, secured a surprise return to Chiefs from Major League Soccer (MLS) side St Louis City on loan for the 2024/25 season.
And it appeared that he was being overlooked by Broos in recent squads due to long gruelling travels from the United States which was done with the guarantee of game time.
“I hope that Njabulo will come back on the level he had when he left South Africa, I said it many times, it’s good to go abroad but you have to play,” Broos said.
“In the beginning he did, then he didn’t, then he played again, we called him more than a year ago. After that he didn’t play again, so let’s hope now with his transfer to Chiefs he will play, and he will play well.
“And then okay, players who are playing good are always candidates [to be selected] for Bafana Bafana.”
Blom’s return to South Africa was due to a fallout with their new head coach John Hackworth.
