Broos Reacts To Crucial Bafana Win In Benin

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says his side deserved to win their Group C 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Benin at the Stade Felix Houphouet Bogy on Tuesday night.

Lyle Foster and Jayden Adams ‘s goals inspired Bafana to the top of the group with 13 points in six matches with the Cheetahs dropped to third equal on eight points with second-placed Rwanda from the same number of games.

Broos felt the opposition wasn’t really threatening while his charges played patiently waiting for the right moments, with the Belgian tactician highlighting the analysis of Benin by his technical team as a key factor in the victory.

“I think, first of all, there was a good analysis of the opponent, so congratulations to our analysis,” said Broos after the match.

“Secondly, I think that the players did what we asked them. We knew where we could be dangerous against this team of Benin.  It’s a good team but what we did very good today is keeping the ball in the team and waiting for the right moments.

“So, first half, Benin could do something, but the second half, I think, with the weather being very hot, they were tired at a certain moment, and for us, it started to be more easy. We could score once we could score the second time. And I said on the bench to my assistants, if we score once, we will win the game, and I think it was a game like that.

“Benin was not capable to do something except the little chance that they had the first half, but apart of that we dominated the game, and we deserved the win.”
