Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has revealed that Siyabonga Ngezana is not with the squad because he has lost his traveling documents and can’t leave Romania.
Ngezana, 26, has played an outstanding season, helping FCSB to finish the regular season on top of the log, as they now enter the Championship playoffs.
The fine performances of the Chiefs youth product haven’t gone unnoticed and he was called up to Hugo Broos’ 23-man Bafana squad for the upcoming friendlies against Andorra and Algeria.
However, Ngezana couldn’t make the trip to Algeria due issues with his travel documents, Broos confirmed.
“Ngezana lost documents and for that reason he couldn’t be couldn’t leave Romania,” he told journalists.
Broos later in his press conference also reiterated that Ngezana was very close to being part of his Africa Cup of Nations squad, but in the end they opted against him because he hadn’t been with the team before.
“Ngezana was playing a very good season last season. And we discussed ‘what will we do, will we be taking Ngezana to African or not’,” the Belgian tactician stated.
“We didn’t do it because it was the first time, he’s with the team and he has always to adapt to. That’s why it Ngezana was not with us at the AFCON.
“But now that he can come he doesn’t have the documents. It’s not because of us, it’s because of him.”
South Africa face Andorra on Thursday, before meeting hosts Algeria five days later.
