Broos – These Two Downs Stars Are Ready For Europe

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau are ready for moves to Europe.

The Mamelodi Sundowns duo have been standout figures for club and country, with Mokoena being named in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Team of the Tournament and the reigning Premier Soccer League Footballer of the Season.

Last season, Khuliso Mudau scooped the PSL Defender of the Season and their consistent displays at national team level has Broos yearning they could further their career and develop more in more competitive leagues than the DStv Premiership.

“Maybe in Sundowns, they won’t be happy now but I hope that Mokoena can make the steps because he is ready for it, sometimes I say this one, what is he going to do [in Europe], but Teboho is ready to do it,” Broos said.

“And maybe some other players also, I said also after AFCON, Khuliso is also ready and some other players, it should be good for Bafana Bafana to play in those competitions that’s a higher level than PSL, they will become better players.

“And you see in other countries… take the opponent of next week [Nigeria] where are they playing? Italy, France, England, all the big competitions and you see what kind of players they are.

“So let’s hope that AFCON and maybe the good results of the national team bring more interest in South African players and they can make the step, not only what it was before, to be abroad, but to play abroad, and there are players that are able to do it.”

South Africa take on Nigeria in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Friday 7 June in Uyo, before returning to the country to host Zimbabwe four days later in Bloemfontein.
