Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has applauded Pitso Mosimane’s decision to call up Chicago Fire attacker Puso Dithejane who is often referred to as a laxative pill when he’s on form.
Dithejane, 22, is part of Mosimane’s squad for the back-to-back 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea here at home this weekend and Eritrea away. The qualifiers will be followed by an international friendly against Egypt next month.
The winger has been part of the national team however only played at COSAFA Cup level. The current call-up comes as he has cemented his place in the MLS outfit where he has played 27 matches across all competitions scoring five goals and providing two assists.
Khumalo said the timing couldn’t have been more perfect for the former TS Galaxy man as he is brimming with confidence of also playing with some of the best players in the world at his club.
“I’ve just analysed Matthews and Puso is doing it outside South Africa,” said Khumalo on The DNA Podcast.
“He’s playing with top players. He just gave an assist to [Robert] Lewandowski. He shares the dressing room with Lewandowski, one of the top strikers in the world. And what does the majority say, his confidence.
“And you are bringing him to the national team. He’s been waiting for this moment and Pitso is finding him at his hottest form and bringing him home. There’s nothing as nice as getting a call-up when you are abroad.
“It elevates you even at your club they have respect for you. It changes the perception of how they perceive you.
“That boy, he’s been scoring left, right, and naturally. He’s like a laxative pill. In the township they’d call him laxa pill because of how troublesome he is he’ll make you run up and down.”
