Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed experienced defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has picked up an injury and has been ruled out for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying opener against Guinea.
Sibisi is amongst the senior figures in the national team as the longest serving defender in the national team, having been part of Broos first-ever squad five years ago under the new era for South African football.
Alongside Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena, the trio have formed a core part of the Bafana set-up that secured bronze in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Setback on Sibisi, he got an injury and has not been training for the last two days, he got a knock in training, we are monitoring it,” Mosimane said in the pre-match press conference.
“The doctor says he will miss this one, but injuries are part of professional sport, hence we select enough numbers, we don’t know what will happen, what we will face.
“We all know Lebo also pulled out, that’s why selected as much as we could, so we can absorb, and overcome these hurdles. That’s what we have, so far so good, the camp is good.”
Bafana open their campaign against the West Africans on Saturday afternoon at the Orlando Amstel Arena (15h00).
