Mshishi Echoes Broos’ AFCON Target

Bafana Bafana playmaker Themba Zwane says they see themselves capable of reaching the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

South Africa secured a place in the last-16, where they will face 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists Morocco, one of the favourites for the title.

However, it’s a side Bafana beat in the qualifiers of the competition last year with a 2-1 win at FNB Stadium.

“We have a good team to go forward for the games, try to fight and try to see ourselves in the final – we’re going to push ourselves, why not? And we have the team for that,” Zwane said when asked if they see themselves progressing further.

With six days rest after the game against Tunisia, the 34-year-old, like most of the squad stated it’s much needed, having been feeling the effects of group stage fatigue on match day in the 0-0 draw against the Carthage Eagles.

“First of all the rest will be good for us to try to bring the body back – in terms of quality we have shown that quality that we have, we have the quality to compete and yeah try to push ourselves,” he stated.

“We play Champions League but we know the level is higher here, but we can compete moving forward.”
