Makhanya – Why I’ve Been Talking To Cassius Mailula

Former Stellenbosch FC defender Olwethu Makhanya has revealed why he has been in contact with countryman Cassius Mailula after his move to the MLS.

The two youngsters moved to the MLS to join Union and Toronto FC respectively in 2022 having enjoyed good seasons in the DStv Premiership with Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch FC respectively.

The 19-year-old Makhanya told iDiski Times in the latest edition of the newspaper about the struggles he is overcoming in America, waiting for his turn and taking care of himself which includes his mental health.

Makhanya says because he and Mailula moved to the States at the same time they face similar challenges so staying in touch makes a lot of things easier for both of them.

“The one person I have been talking to a lot on a daily basis is Cassius Mailula,” Makhanya told iDiski Times.

“I think it’s because him and I went that side at the same time. We communicate and he also tells me how it’s going on his side, the level of competition, what he is going through and I found that he is struggling with the same things.”

“It just makes things easier because sometimes when you struggle with something you start doubting yourself but if you find out that everyone is going through the same thing, you get to understand that you can overcome the challenges.”

“So yeah the person I speak to a lot is Cassius Mailula.”
