Nigeria Suffer Blow Ahead Of Bafana Clash

Nigeria have suffered a major blow ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, confirming that Victor Osimhen has been ruled out with injury.

Osimhen, 25, has scored 20 goals in 27 appearances for the Super Eagles, and was named African Footballer of the Year in 2023.

But he has been ruled out of Nigeria’s qualifiers against Bafana Bafana and Benin.

“Camp update: Africa Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen is injured and out for 4 weeks,” the Super Eagles stated.

“Super Eagles’ Coach Finidi George has called up Enugu Rangers’ left-back Kenneth Igboke for the WC qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Rep.”

Nigeria started the qualifiers with two surprise draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, and need a result against South Africa to lose grip on Group C

Osimhen was starring in Serie A last season, scoring 26 goals in 32 appearances to lead Napoli to their first Scudetto since 1990.

This season, he scored 15 goals in 25 appearances, as Napoli struggled to reach the heights of last season.
