SAFA Make Bafana Announcement

The South African Football Association have confirmed that they will host their first game in Bloemfontein since the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Bafana will take on Nigeria and Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with the latter being taken to Free State Stadium – the first clash at that venue since Bafana beat France 2-1 at the World Cup on home soil.

“Bafana Bafana will host their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, 11 June 2024,” SAFA confirmed on Thursday.

SAFA acting CEO Dr Thulani Ngwenya is pleading with fan to fill up the stadium for the crucial match against the Warriors.

“We are looking forward to playing this match in Bloemfontein, and we appeal to the fans to come out in numbers to support the team,” he told SAFA.

“The fans play such a crucial role for the players, and a packed Free State Stadium would serve as a fantastic boost for them.”

Bafana, who are second in Group C after a 2-1 win over Benin and a surprise 2-0 defeat in Rwanda, will face Nigeria on 7 June – the Super Eagles started their campaign with two draws
