Banyana Banyana head coach Dr Desiree Ellis admits that defending their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title will be tough as they start with preparations.
South Africa was pitted in Group C alongside Ghana, Mali and Tanzania for the much-anticipated continental showpiece scheduled for 5-26 July 2025 in Morocco.

The tournament was initially billed for 2024 but had to be shifted as the dates clashed those of the Paris Olympic Games.
As holders, Banyana have been busy with preparations and used two high-profile friendly internationals against Denmark and England in October though both ties ended in 5-0 and 2-1 defeats, respectively.
The team will at the end of November travel to Jamaica for two more international friendlies which are also part of preparations of their cup defence.
Ellis was quoted by safa.net as saying she expects a tough tournament as past results won’t matter.
“It is not going to be easy,” Ellis told SAFA.net
“Past results mean nothing. Now that we know who our opponents are, we can start preparing and getting ready for the WAFCON as African champions.”
