AmaZulu FC defender Omega Mdaka has reflected on his move to the club and his reunion with Arthur Zwane, who coached him during his developmental years.
The left-back joined Usuthu from Stellenbosch ahead of the new season. He had the opportunity to join the club in 2023 after undergoing an assessment, but AmaZulu decided not to sign him.

Mdaka says he always wanted to play for AmaZulu, although it was “unfortunate” that the transfer did not happen at the time.
“To be honest, I wanted to be here, so it just delayed a bit. I was just unfortunate to leave and then come back again now, but I’m not surprised,” said Mdaka.
“I know coach Arthur from development level, so I know the type of coach he is. Me being here isn’t a coincidence. I want to be here and that’s why I’m here.”
Mdaka also expressed his delight at reuniting with Arthur Zwane, who coached him during his development days at Kaizer Chiefs.
He said Zwane is a demanding coach but described him as a “top coach”, adding that it has been a pleasure to work with him again.
“He’s an easy-going coach as a person, but obviously during training or on matchdays, he’s very demanding,” he added.
“He expects the best out of his players and me, obviously. He’s a top coach, an even better human being, so it’s been great working with him so far.”
