Back To Square One For Bay And Tembo

Richards Bay coach Kaitano Tembo feels his side are back to square one having failed to build on from their first win of the season over Moroka Swallows on Friday.

Bay, who had gone 19 matches winless in all competitions before beating the Dube Birds, could not build on from that, as they were brought down to earth as they lost 2-1 to Chippa United at King Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday night.

But Tembo lamented that they didn’t have sufficient time to prepare because they were travelling from Joburg to Durban and then from Durban to Bay.

“Yes, that is my worry because I think this game came too soon for us,” said Tembo after the game.

“We needed to relax a little bit because we only played on Friday and then on Tuesday we are playing another game with a lot of travelling as well.

“Because from Joburg, we came to Durban and Durban we went to Richards Bay and yesterday (Monday) we came back to Durban to play this game.

“So the travelling can play a huge role in terms of the freshness of the team. But this is our situation and we just have to try and dig deep to find ways and means to get ourselves out of there.”

Bay, despite the loss, remain second from bottom with five points after seven matches, five points ahead of Cape Town Spurs.

Spurs registered another loss, losing to Golden Arrows at Athlone Stadium also on Tuesday, which was their sixth on the bounce.

Tembo said as much as it is working on their part that Spurs are losing games but they shouldn’t rely on that.

“For me we have to look at ourselves and say can we do better,” the former Sekhukhune United coach said.

“We don’t really have to rely on what Cape Town Spurs are doing. We have to focus on ourselves because we feel like we should be winning more and what is happening now (but we are losing) because of the performance.

“Based on the way we are playing, I feel we don’t deserve to be where we are.”
