Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker says the nomination of Coach of the Season is ‘nice recognition’ but it’s credit to the players, staff and the entire club.
Barker was nominated alongside Jose Riveiro and Miguel Cardoso for the Betway Premiership Coach of the Season, after finishing third in the league and qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup again.

In their debut foray in the competition, they reached the semi-final stage, where they eventually lost to Fadlu David’s Simba SC 1-0 but earned plenty of plaudits along the way.
“It’s always nice to get recognition for the season that we had but ultimately it’s down to the club and the staff, my support staff, the assistant coaches and mainly the players,” Barker told iDiski Times.
“I think when you get nominated as a coach it’s not about me; it’s about them really performing and doing well – the whole club… it’s recognition for the good work we have done.”
Stellies are currently in camp in Gauteng with scheduled pre-season fixtures against TS Galaxy and Siwelele FC this week.
